Doorstep Adventures: Bluebell Woods

Doorstep-adventures-bluebell-woodsWhen travel lovers have full time 9-5 jobs, you have to get a little creative about how you scratch your itchy feet and quench your wanderlust.

So last weekend, James and I went on an adventure closer to home. I grabbed my camera and we set out to explore the local area. I wasn’t expecting to stumble across anything quite as beautiful as we did. It just goes to show… just because you can’t hop on a plane, doesn’t mean you can’t uncover beautiful new places. You never know when a cheeky little adventure may be just around the corner or right on your doorstep…

It felt like we were walking through a scene in Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. We stumbled across these stunning bluebell woods hidden in the little village of Downley just outside of High Wycombe. What a result.

So if you’re stuck at home and your feet are itching, head on out and get yourself lost closer to home. You never know what you may find!

If only we’d bought a picnic.

Lovely post. I recently did a similar post on bluebells, trying to start up bluebell parties in celebration of them. It’s a bit like the Sakura parties they have in Japan. We just don’t appreciate these beautiful flowers. My pictures were taken not far from yourselves, just outside a village called Latimer, near Chesham. Just a pity the season has finished now, but plenty more to celebrate as summer approaches.

Thanks Gavin! Just checked out your post also – fab photographs. Definitely agree with the #bluebellparties idea… think you’ve got a plan there! We’ll have to check out your wood one weekend soon! Beautiful!

Lovely post, and so true. There is so much beauty and interest all around us if we only take time to look.

The walk I take from my home to where I work passes through not only a wood that looks very similar to yours (and which was adorned with bluebells last week), but also a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’ – it’s an ex-industrial site that’s now a nature reserve, coupled with some (apparently) rare rock type. Most people I think don’t realise just what’s on their doorstep!

Thanks so much for this! Really pleased you enjoyed the post…. Wow the Site of Special Scientific interest sounds very interesting. Great to stumble across such a place so close to home. This is going to be the first post in a Doorstep Adventures series, so stay tuned! ๐Ÿ™‚

        Will do ๐Ÿ™‚

Once I get a working computer back at home (I have three; they’re all dead! Boo! I’m posting this from work!), I’ll do a post about it – it’s really quite beautiful, in that ‘generic English countryside’ way, anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚

Fab ๐Ÿ™‚ – let us know when you’re back in the land of the digital & get the post up – would love to check it out!

Lovely photos! It definitely reminds me of Broadchurch series 2 (if you haven’t seen Broadchurch, please do, because it’s brilliant ๐Ÿ™‚ ). You’re right, you don’t have to travel far to find beauty. I mean, I live in a very small country, the Netherlands, and even though it’s small, I still discover new places I haven’t been yet.

    • http://www.theglobewanderers.com TheGlobeWanderers

Oooo yes we got a little bit addicted to Broadchurch – SO good. Absolutely – beauty is everywhere on this wonderful world of ours… we’ve just got to keep our eyes open! ๐Ÿ™‚

Where abouts in the Netherlands are you from Maaike? I’ve been to Amsterdam, but would love to see more of the Country!

Haha I got addicted to it as well! Watched it on ITV, and since it’s airing since last week on the Dutch TV, I’m watching it again ๐Ÿ™‚ So yes, bluebells haha.

I’m from the South, Breda, about 15min from the Belgian border. Please let me know if you’re ever in the NL again. I would love to show you around. (However, I’ll be moving to London myself in fall)
